Race Preview: 2017 Hardesty Hardcore (Oakridge)

If you love a good challenge and trail running is your choice of course the Hardesty Hardcore is a great option. This event is the 4th event in the Run Big Trail Series and is hosted by Level 32 Racing LLC. The Hardesty Hardcore has two race options. The “hardcore”, which has a distance of 14 miles, starts with a climb of 3300 feet for the first 4.5 miles, then descends 3300 feet the following 4 miles, and will then tapper off for the final 5.5 miles. It is considered very challenging and has a time limit of 4 hours. The “forest- fiver” is a 5.5 mile race and will start at the South Creek Trailhead. It will run into the finish at the Hardesty Trailhead parking lot. The Forest Fiver is considered easy to moderate and will have gradual ascents and descents. Both races will be on a single track trail.

Racers take note, those who are doing the Forest Fiver will be shuttled from the Hardesty Trailhead parking lot up to the start, at 8:15am, due to no parking at the 5.5 mile start. The Hardcore, will start at 8:00 am sharp, while the Forest Fiver will start at 8:30 am.

Aid stations are available throughout the course, with 4 stations for the 14 mile, found at 3 miles, 4.5 miles, and 8.5 miles, and 1 station for the 5.5 mile found at 3.5 miles. They will provide light snacks and water at each station.

There will be awards presented to the top three in each age group per event, as well as an award for overall male and female winner.

Entry fees are $35 for the 14 mile event, $30 for the 5.5 mile event (including shuttle). 17 and under deduct $5. Race day registration add $10. Race tech shirts will be available for $12.
