Small Race Preview: Sunset Bay Trail Runs (Coos Bay)

1 mile. 4 mile. 15k. Half Marathon. These are your choices for the Sunset Bay Trail Runs happening in Coos Bay at Sunset Bay State Park. Put on by the South Coast Running Club and now in it’s 8th year, all of these routes provide scenic views of the Oregon Coast.

The 1 mile fun run is free and goes along the beach (which can be harder than it sounds – running on sand ain’t no joke!) and the 4 mile and 15k are on mostly hilly trails along the beach side. The half marathon distance gives you an amazing flat cliff section where you’ll see sea lions, rocks, the ocean of course, and if you’re very lucky, a passing whale.  The cost of the half marathon is only $10 – for ALL of that! Now that’s a fantastic deal!

To keep costs down, there is no race shirts or swag included in registration, but you can purchase one if you register before August 19th. There will be restrooms and water at the start/finish and at the 4 mile point for 15k and half marathon runners. At the finish, ribbons will be given to top 3 winners overall and in age division. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Pregnancy Resource Center in Coos Bay.

At prices 90% of what normal “big” races cost and at a location that many of those “big” races wished they had, you can’t go wrong with  any of these race options!
