The 2nd annual Salmon Run 5K/3K, with chip timing by Eclectic Edge Racing, will be on Saturday, August 26, 2017 in Mapleton, Oregon as a fundraiser for the Siuslaw Watershed Council. The course is gently rolling along the Siuslaw River, beginning and ending at the Mapleton School District Campus.
The run was originally created by Shiloh Forest Sundstrom and has since been revived in his honor since his passing. The SWC’s race brochure says the following:
When Shiloh passed away in November, 2015, at the age of 34, he was already a leading researcher and rancher-scholar in the fields of Geography, Forestry, and Collaborative Conservation, and was awarded a posthumous PhD. from Oregon State University. He was Valedictorian of the Mapleton Class of 2000, and participated in all three varsity sports. He focused his career on Pastoralism in Kenya and Ranching in the US West. An International Symposium was held at OSU honoring his achievements, a Corvallis brewery launched a new beer called “SHILOH IPA”, and friends and family contributed $25,000 to create an OSU Endowment to assist future students in carrying on his vision of natural resources productivity and protection on the same landscapes.
