Race Preview: Growl to Garden Road Mile (Eugene)

The inaugural Growl to Garden Road Mile starts near Tap & Growler and finishes near Beer Garden in Eugene.

Two words: Road mile! Got your attention, didn’t I? If you’ve been a regular Run Oregon reader, you probably know that I love road miles. You just take off at the sound of the starting gun, give it all you’ve got for 5,280 feet, and before you know it it’s over and you’ve had a blast racing your friends through the streets with no need for aid stations or mile markers.

The newest road mile is coming up on Saturday, August 19th in Eugene. The inaugural Growl to Garden Road Mile is a point-to-point race through downtown Eugene on Pearl Street and 5th Avenue, from the Tap & Growler to Beer Garden, promising only one turn on the mostly straight course. Not only does the course sound fast, but there are multiple heats to enhance competition and reduce crowding, including community, open, and age group miles, a kids race, an industry mile, high school boys and girls heats, and races for elite men and women.

A post-race celebration at Beer Garden will feature a large selection of local beers, wines, and ciders, as well as the presentation of the awards for each heat.

A fast point-to-point course, individual heats, and best of all, a 1-mile race on the roads in Tracktown USA. Sounds like a good time to me!
