Portland Marathon Clinic Free Long Run for Saturday, July 22, 2017

This Saturday, the PMC gets really close to it’s first 20-miler! Experienced marathoners will run 19 miles while those training for their first marathon and those running less weekly mileage will run 16.

The run, as always, starts at 8a; this week’s route starts and ends at the Road Runner Sports location at 29 NW 23rd Place. Do not park in their parking structure though – tickets are given to cars remaining there longer than 2 hours! There is street parking and a few surface lots in the area that you can use.

The route this week will run straight to the Willamette River through downtown and then run south on the Westside Path to Tilikum Crossing. Then you’ll make your way to the Springwater Corridor and run along the river. There are bathrooms near mile 7 at the Sellwood Riverfront Park. From there, you’ll run through Sellwood on Umatilla and 19th to get back onto the Springwater. Those going 16 will actually turn around before getting to the trail again, but the 19-milers will keep going all the through Tideman Johnson City Park and turn around before the path crosses SE Johnson Creek Blvd before heading back.

Bring hydration, nutrition, and dry clothes and a snack for afterwards. Keep in mind that you’ll need to protect yourself from the sun and warm temps as well and dress appropriately. And let the mom in me remind you: wear sunscreen!

We started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. We also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support local race organizers.
