Guest Post: Twilight Run – a Family Tradition

The Twilight Run has been an annual activity in our household for many years. The timing is perfect to kick start our training to get ready for summer adventures and we love that it is an evening run in a park nearby. The course is flat and fast along the bike trails with beautiful scenery.

Our race fee also includes entry to the Balloon Festival, where there is always a ton going on. Directly after the race, we head over to festival area where there is music, carnival rides, games, food and my husband’s favorite…the beer garden!

We now have two children in the Tigard-Tualatin School District so it has even more importance. Funds from the race benefit the Foundation for Tigard-Tualatin Schools that raises money through a series of events throughout the year to boost our students success. Funds raised help pay for part-time teachers, and instructional assistants that help with technology, arts and supplies. A fun night, for a great cause makes for a perfect evening!

The Kids Mile is a great length for our son, who now has three years of t-shirts and ribbons in his collection. My daughter will run for the first time this year as a Kinder and is pumped to try and beat her brother! Their favorite part is the Night Glow. As the sun starts to set they bring out all the cool hot air balloons to inflate them and put on a show with their igniters. We love to guess what shape or character they will be as they inflate.

It started out as a fun date night for my husband and I, and has now grown into an annual summer family tradition that will most definitely be a part of our routine for years to come.
