I have a confession to make. I have worked in the Parkrose district of Portland for nine years now and I have never explored any of it, except for the occasional places for lunch. I drive back and forth through it and across it twice every day during the week and I even live about five minutes from there, but I’ve never stopped to wander around and see. Maybe you are like me, or maybe you are just looking for a great local 5k or 10k race – in either case, you’ll want to check out this event!
The Taste of Parkrose 5k/10k race is in it’s 4th year now and is just one of many events during the Taste of Parkrose and Parkrose Hardware Eggfest festival. This year it is all being held at Rossi Farms, a neat family farm that is right smack in the middle of Parkrose and holds all kinds of family friendly events every year (plus they have amazing vegetables and fruit!).
Both the 5k and 10k races take runners throughout the NE Portland area of Parkrose, starting and ending at the Fair. The 5k circles its way through all the cute neighborhoods and businesses, while the 10k adds on an extra bonus loop through Maywood Park (an actual city within a city!) and into Gateway Green, a brand new public park, on Gateway Green’s official opening day! And there is also a free kids 100 yard dash to check out too if you’ve got little ones right before the races head out!
Field size is limited to 200 participants, runners and walkers are welcome. All finishers receive a tech shirt, race medal, admission to the Fair, free food and 1 free beer (21 and over). Stick around and check out the fun festival after the race and enjoy a lovely summer day out and about! 🙂
