Saturday morning long runs are wonderful: you can get the hard work out of the way early in the weekend, and perhaps indulge a little bit that day to make up for your calorie deficit. Portland Marathon Clinic runs are a great place to log your weekend miles, because you’ll have experienced pace group leaders, friendly runners, and an accurate route to run on.
The run this weekend is at Athleta’s store inside Washington Square Mall. The mall itself opens at 7a so you’ll be able to get in and easily find the other runners. Bonus: The mall’s restrooms are also open.
The route will cover 10, 12, and 13 miles, and there will be water a miles 3 and 7. You’ll start running north on Scholls Ferry to Hall, then turn left and run towards the Fanno Creek Trail. The trailhead is about 1 mile from the mall. Heading south on the trail past the old Albertson’s, under Scholls Ferry, over North Dakota St., Tigard Street, Tiedeman, you’ll then get to run through Woodard Park and on a few surface streets to the new(ish) connecter that runs under Highway 99 to downtown Tigard. You’ll continue on to SW Hall near the Tigard Library, which is where everyone will turn around. Those running 10 miles will just trace their steps back to the mall; the 12-mile and 13-mile runners will cross Hall near the old Albertson’s and run either another half mile or three-quarters of a mile before turning around.
The run starts at 8a sharp, plan to be there by 7:45 so you can locate your pace group and be ready to roll on time.
