Race Preview: 2017 Mary’s Peak 50k, 25k, and 50m (Blodgett, OR)

Any race featuring the word ‘peak’ in the name is sure to be a good time, right? If you love trail running, and you especially love hills, put either of these distances on your “to-run” list.

Oregon Trail Runs is once again treating us to Mary’s Peak Trail Run. You can pick you poison between the 25k, 50k, or the 50 mile option but rest assured, each one is a challenge.

There aren’t many trail running events in the coast range, and because this one is capped at only 125 runners for each distance (only 100 for the 50M), make sure you get it on it quick!

Mary’s Peak is actually the highest point in the coast range at 4,097 ft/1,249 m. The 25k and 50k are each point to point runs – there will be shuttles in the morning to take runners to the start of each. The 50 mile is a double ascent, so no shuttle is needed!

25k details:

  • +2,229 ft / -3,210 ft
  • 9:30 AM start time (shuttles at 8:10 and 8:20 AM)

50k details:

  • +5,352 ft / -6,686 ft
  • 8:00 AM start time (shuttles at 7:10 and 7:20 AM)
  • Cutoffs: Mile 13,7 (base of Northridge) by 1 PM; Mile 21 (aid station 4) by 3:30 PM; Mile 27 (final aid station) by 6 PM

50M details:

  • +9,735 ft / -9,681 ft
  • 7:00 AM start time (no shuttle needed; check-in begins at 5:30 AM)
  • Cutoffs: Mile 26 by 3:30 PM; Mile 39 (aid station 6) by 4:30 PM; Mile 45 (final aid station) by 6 PM

Luckily, missing cutoffs hasn’t really happened in this event. Sadly, this also means they do not offer an early start for runners.

Visit this link for elevation charts and descriptions!

The aid stations in this event will have PB&J sandwiches, water, electrolytes, and other standard ultra fare. There will also be first aid or an EMT at each aid station. The 50k and 50M options are also both allowed drop bags.

The top 3 finishers for men and women in each age category receive custom medals.

Also, if you’re able and willing to volunteer, you can get someone into the race for free! If you’re friends are all busy on race day and you don’t need the entry, Oregon Trail Runs will donate $50 back to your favorite charity. Win-win! Their website has more details.
