Have you ever heard of the Loyalty Days in Newport? Here’s a little back story:

Loyalty Day was originated by the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) on the East Coast, with Newport’s Veterans starting our local Loyalty Day celebration in May of 1956. As the celebration continued to spread throughout the nation, Congress wrote a Joint Resolution and President Eisenhower signed the Bill into law designating the First of May as Loyalty Day, a special day set aside for the recognition of the heritage of American freedom. With Newport’s strong support of the Loyalty Day tradition and its designation as a Coast Guard City USA, we invite you to share in this years celebration.

Enjoy the Davis Show Carnival in South Beach all weekend long. The Loyalty Days Parade takes place Saturday at noon in the center of town. The Newport Vietnam Memorial Walk is held Friday evening.

The Newport Loyalty Days Parade Run is a 2-mile race that takes place just prior to the parade. Since Highway 101 will be temporarily closed off for the parade, runners will get to experience safely running on this iconic stretch. Since the event is a point-to-point, busses will transport participants to the starting line from the Performing Arts Center.

The event supports Lincoln County youth track athletes. Every parent and child that enter together and finish the race will get a team silver shoe charm for each of them. All finishers get a ribbon at the finish line as well.
