The Strike out Hunger 5k/10k run/walk hosted by the Toledo Food Share Pantry is on April 8th, in Toledo, Or. Nestled along the Yaquina River in Lincoln, County this picturesque coastal town in perfect for a run. Last year the run raised $4,900 for the pantry. That’s pretty impressive since the race had 98 participants.
The pantry operates an independent 501 (c)(3) organization with 3,017 individuals (2,081 adults, 936 youth under 19) that regularly shop at the pantry. In 2015, the pantry distributed 80,386 pounds of food to families and individuals that reside in Toledo, Elk City, and Sawyers Landing.
While much of the food is donated or purchased at a reduced cost from the Oregon Food Bank, the cost of bread, milk, and especially eggs and meat have gone up dramatically in the last year. In order to keep up with these price increases, the pantry needs to continue to raise funds so they can continue to offer these essential nutrients to the hungry families in the community.
