What Run Oregon is Wearing: Aevok Apparel (DISCOUNT CODE)

We first came across Aevok on Instagram and were instantly intrigured by the unique designs they were putting out. It isn’t too often that you see skulls and bloodstains on running tops (aside from your occasional bloody nipple sighting), but it really got us delving into their catalog to see what else they had going on.
Come to find out that they are really new to the running apparel landscape, but they seem to have hit the ground running. They sent Matt and Marilyn a few items from their newly released line to check out for ourselves.

*More about Aevok:

Running isn’t easy; neither is developing the best running top in the universe. But for us, accepting mediocrity is just not something you do.

Aevok is built from one very simple idea: disrupt the running industry.

We were fed up with the cookie-cutter sameness of every athletic apparel company on the market, so we decided to do something about it. Gray shirt, blue shirt, black shirt, plain, boring, uninspiring. We were tired of vanilla because that is not who we are.

More than anything else, we wanted a shirt that fully expressed our inner badass. And our inner badass is most definitely NOT a gray shirt.

So we created a product that is designed to perfectly fit the body with bold graphics that truly express who we are. We put thousands of hours into researching, creating, sewing, designing, and running in our product and we know, there is nothing else like it out there.

I am always down to try out new running tops, and the new X top from Aevok is an impressive combination of unique design without going over the top. While the X seems to hold its own with solid performance qualities (and is also super soft), the real success is in the details. While the differences are subtle, they give a distinctive look that sets it apart a bit from competitors.

The main eye-catcher is the awesome notched neckline – almost a combo between a crew and V-neck. Add in some front and bag words (including “Run Obsessed” on the back), along with the yellow side logo, and it’s an impressive looking shirt, even if the colors are relatively neutral. Like Marilyn will mention below, the  cut is long and fitted through the body, with a curved hem to give it some extra tail in the rear.It can even double as a casual shirt if you want to go that route. It’s truly a double threat top.

UntitledI haven’t had a new running hat in a while, and the Aevok Runner really worked for me – both in look, fit, and function. The hat is easily adjustable with a simple buckle in the back. It is also super light, made so by the side panel mesh construction. This also helped get some air flow, allowing my head to breath when I heated up. I can’t wait to use this in the summer!

I like that this hat actually feels like a “real” hat. My main complaint about many running hats is the flimsiness of the top paneling and the brims – which I can never get to look normal. Aevok’s hat is about as “normal” a running hat as I have seen. The brim actually has some structure to it and, while it comes flat (the style nowadays), it can be bent more into a traditional baseball hat mold – which I personally love. Underneath is the “Run Obsessed” logo that Aevok has branded.

“This isn’t your dad’s running top.”
“Running isn’t a sport, it’s a lifestyle.”
“No stink, no shrink, no sag–we ain’t got time for that.”

These are a few of the phrases that will greet you when you check out Aevok Apparel’s website. They’re not out to be just another workout wear company that cranks out fast fashion. They’re not out to create a shirt that loosely throws together elements of sport, fashion, and comfort. They’re not about throwing hundreds of different products out into the world for consumption. Aevok wants to thoughtfully craft shirts that will rock your world.

I had the opportunity to test out two items that hadn’t beent listed on Aevok’s website until recently, because they’re brand spankin’ new: the Aevok Runner hat, and a their Golden tank.

The Aevok Runner is made out thin breathable fabric, and mesh sides, which allows lots of airflow. The hat is adjustable due to the strap and buckle–so it stays put, and unlike velcro, won’t rip out your hair.  The bill of the hat is emblazoned with “RUN OBSESSED.” This hat is going to come in handy during the hot summer months.

The Aevok Golden tank features “RUN OBSESSED” in metallic gold script across the chest horizontally, while the back features the same phrase written vertically along the spine, printed in reflective lettering for visibility. While workout tanks are a dime a dozen, I’m kind of obsessed with this one. The cut and the material really make it stand out. The cut is long, and fitted through the body, with a curved hem. It’s flattering and functional because I feel like I can move freely without having to tug at my shirt.  The notched neckline is far more interesting and practical than the standard V-neck (ew, boring), the standard crew neck (ugh, suffocating), or too-low scoop neck (eek!). The dropped sleeves weren’t so low that I looked like a bro at the gym, but they helped keep me cool (and showed just a peek of my cute patterned sports bra!). The material lived up to it’s promises of being fast drying, non-sagging, non-shrinking, and SOOOO SOFT. It’s not so thin that it feels cheap, and not so thick that it feels bulky. This tank is rad, and is perfect for you or the obsessed runner(s) in your life.

  1. Maybe it’s because I’m listening the audiobook of “Mockingjay” right now, but when I first saw the name of the apparel company, it made me think of the Avoxes (the mute slaves in the Capitol of Panem)….
