Here’s some news you can use (and share) that caught our eye at Run Oregon this week. Special thanks to contributor Geli Heidelberger for her heads-ups on a few things.
Today’s the last day for early bird pricing for the obstacle-course mud run Dirty Leprechaun 5k. The prices jump $10 tonight at midnight (February 28, 2017). Sign up tonight for just $55 or pay more tomorrow!
There’s an Oregon Brewery Running Series 5k this Saturday, March 4 at Stormbreaker Brewing, located at 832 N. Beech Street in Portland. Remember you can get 20% with the code runOR20 at registration!
The first Oregon State Penitentiary Run in on Friday, March 17, but you need to write to OSP and get clearance ten days before the race. Click here to get the details on how to sign up. The race on March 17 is a 5k/10k.
The Oregon Track Club’s Monthly Run/Walk Series starts on Thursday, March 9 with a 5k at Alton Baker Park starting at 6p. This event is FREE for OTC members and only $5 for non-members.
Have you been thinking of doing a double? There’s a great opportunity on March 18 in Salem with the Cherry Blossom Run & Ninja Race* and the Salem Paddy Pint 5k. The Cherry Blossom Run is up first at 9a, and the Salem Paddy Pint starts at 10a. It’s completely do-able as the finish line of the Cherry Blossom Run is at the State Capitol and the start of the Paddy Pint is just down Center Street about 8 blocks to Riverfront City Park.
By the way, that “Ninja Race” mentioned above means something. There is a Ninja running the Cherry Blossom Run in Salem in March 18 and if you finish ahead of him you get a raffle ticket; if you finish within 30 places of him you get a raffle ticket; therefore if you are within 30 places ahead of him you get two raffle tickets. The raffle is for a bottle of Japanese sake.
One of Run Oregon’s favorite small relays is the Falcon 15k Relay. It’s a 3-person relay, and each person runs or walks a 5k loop. You can also walk or run it as an individual 15k. This race is on Saturday, April 22 at Liberty High School in Hillsboro and proceeds support Liberty Fit, a running program at the school. The relay is $75 for a 3-person team and the individual 15k is $30.
Terrapin Events’ Cinco de Mayo has moved their start/finish area. They are now going to run out of the East Side Industrial Area. The change means that all races (half, 10k, and 5k) run over bridges and are run on flatter courses than the previous course. Registration is tiered by the number of people who sign up, but the details are not posted, so if you are planning to do this one sign up sooner rather than later. As of today, the half is $69, the 10k is $49, the 5k is $34, and the kid’s half miler is $8.
Speaking of Terrapin, they’ve opened registration for their Friday, July 22 Sunset on the Springwater. The half is $49 and the 10k is $39 until April 1.
That’s all for this installment. Readers and RDs, if you have a newsworthy announcement, please send it our way so we can share it with our readers!
