Thinking of running a fun St. Patrick’s Day race in March at the coast? How about one that starts and ends at a brewery and offers you a refreshing beer at the end? Or maybe you are just looking for a fun run the whole family can enjoy. Consider the 4th annual Newport Shamrock Run on March 18th and enjoy the fun perks of running a 5k, a 10k, or a Fun Run for the kids. This race is sponsored by Rogue Brewery and it also benefits Shangri-la, a company that provides employment and workforce skills training to Oregonians with disabilities.
If you are looking for a new 5k or 10K PR, this race would be a great opportunity to achieve it. The course is flat and fast; the website boasts you “won’t find a flatter course.” It’s also scenic, as it offers views of the iconic Yaquina Bay Bridge and South Jetty. You’ll start at Rogue Brewery, run under the Yaquina Bay Bridge and along the South Jetty, and finally onto South Beach State Park before looping back around to the brewery where you will enjoy free food and a free Rogue Irish Lager (Apple Cider or Rogue Root Beer for minors.)
In addition to the free beverage and food mentioned above, you will get a custom bib for this race and did I forget to mention that there’s a costume contest? Judging will begin before the race at the starting line and you must be present at the awards ceremony to get your prizes of $100 for 1st place, $60 for 2nd, and $40 for 3rd place. There will also be an awards ceremony for the top overall men and women age groups, (there is no age group for the Kids Fun Run.)
