Race Preview: 2017 Heartbreaker Half & Providence Heart to Start 10K and 5K

heart-breaker-half-300-x-250Celebrate the weekend of love with the Seventh Annual Heart Breaker Half-Marathon, with the Providence Heart to Start 10K and 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, February 12th. Bring the kids along too for the Heart Breaker Kids’ 1-Mile Dash. Enjoy an indoor expo area with music, vendors and prizes before and after the run at Liberty High School in Hillsboro, Oregon.

Get away from the city and enjoy the scenery along the country roads in Hillsboro. The Half-Marathon ($60) will comprise of three loops around business parks, farms and wineries. A combination of flats and moderate climbs, with a fun challenge at Heart Break Hill the course has a little bit of everything. There are two races in one: the half marathon itself plus a one mile mini- race between mile point 2.98 and 3.98 called Heart Break Hill. The fastest five men and women will win a special prize. Awards will also be given to the fastest Overall Male and Female, Master Male and Female as well as the top three finishers in each age division for the Half Marathon.

The 10K ($40) will be a single loop and include the same rolling hills and moderate climbs as the Half Marathon, without the Heart Breaker loop. The 5K ($30) will be flat and fast and starts and finishes with a lap around the high school track. There will be aid stations with water and electrolytes along the course. Registration fees include a long sleeve unisex cotton shirt and medals are available for purchase. The little ones are invited for a kids’ 1-mile Dash ($12), so this event is for all ages.

In order to cut down on waste, race organizers have ordered 500 finisher medals. Medals can be purchased for $6 and are only available while supplies last, so if bling is your thing, don’t delay. A limited number of fitness towels with the race logo will also be available for $10.  Day of registration will being at Liberty High School at 6:30am and will cost an additional $10.

A great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with friends and family or go solo and enjoy some friendly competition. Either way, the Heartbreaker Half Marathon, and Providence Heart to Start 10K and 5K and Kids’ Dash is sure to provide a fun morning. With a warm spot in the commons area, people can hang out and enjoy the music post run. This event is close to Portland, just off Highway 26, always well organized and helps the Providence Heart to Start program.
