Check out some of the best sights Portland has to offer with the Rose City Relay on Saturday, July 22nd. Teams of four to six will start and finish at Mt. Hood Community College and have the option to cover 67 miles with twelve legs or 44 miles with eight legs. You can put together a speedy team and take in more of the sights or choose some running friends who want to take their time enjoying the views. With the option of 67 or 44 miles, teams can choose if they want to take it fast or slow. All teams are given 12 hours to finish.
With views of the Columbia Gorge, Smith and Bybee Wildlife Refuge, the Hawthorne and St. John’s Bridges, Mt. Hood and too many parks to list, this relay will surely be scenic. Beginning at the college, the course travels through Troutdale, along the Columbia River on Marine Drive into the city. Once in Portland, it follows the Willamette River along the Esplanade on the Springwater Corridor back up to Mt. Hood Community College where teams can celebrate their finish.
The weather should be perfect for running and one day relays are the best kind. You get to bond with teammates and cover some serious mileage without the headache of extra vans, sleeping bags and a place to crash in between legs. Rose City Relay is a fun excuse to get people together and a unique way to take in the city. Six person teams cost $600 and four person teams cost $400 on January 10th, ONE DAY ONLY. You’ll definitely want to register early to secure a spot and save money. Registration opens on Tuesday, January 10th at 12:01AM and is limited to the first 300 teams. The cost increases to $750 for a six person team and $500 for a four person team on Wednesday, January 11th. Like most relays, all teams are required to provide a volunteer to work a 4 hour shift or opt to ‘buy’ a volunteer for $75. Any team traveling more than 100 miles to Mt. Hood Community College will not be required to provide a volunteer. No headaches organizing this relay, just an opportunity to get out and enjoy your friends, the pavement and everything our beautiful city has to offer.
