One of the sights on the Roaring Run half marathon course.

This year’s Roaring Run takes place at Roaring River County Park in Scio, Ore. on Super Bowl Saturday, February 4th (so you can relax on Sunday while you watch football). There is an early start option for participants who expect to finish the half marathon in 2.5 hours or more,  at 8:30a. (These participants will not be eligible for divisional awards but will receive a finisher’s medal.) The regular start time for the half marathon will be at 9:00a followed by the 10k start at 9:30a. The 5k race will begin at 10:00a.

Registration is now open to all runners and walkers, and the next increase in price will occur after February 2nd. You can still register at an increased rate up until 8:30a the day of the race with the exception of the Early Start Half Marathon which has NO “day of” registration. There is also special youth pricing available for runners age 7-18 years old.

The course is in a rural country setting outside of Scio, and boasts scenic views of rivers, forests, pastures, and mountains to look at while you run on low-traffic country roads. The park where the race begins is about 20 miles east of I-5/Albany via Hwy 20 then Hwy 26. There will be music playing at the mile markers throughout the course and each will have a connection or theme. Participants can guess the connection and enter to win an iPod Shuffle!

Roaring River County Park has limited parking, so shuttle service to the park will be available from Lacomb School and Lacomb Baptist Church every 10 minutes starting at 8:00a until 9:40a. The shuttle will be available from the park back to Lacomb School and Lacomb Baptist Church every 10 minutes starting at 10:40a until 12:30p. There will be a dry secure bag check for shuttle riders available.

In addition to the iPod Shuffle contest, there will be an overall men’s and women’s winner for each race as well as the divisional awards. If you are looking for a small and inexpensive race with less frills and scenic views, this might be the race for you.
