Races on our Radar #3

Time for another “Races on our Radar” post – where we bring you info on low-cost races and group runs you might otherwise overlook, info on the big races like registration deadlines and price increases, and fun details to help you decide which events look like the most fun!

  • 5th Annual Ugly Holiday Sweater Run – Saturday, December 17 at Road Runner Sports in Tualatin
This is a FUN, untimed 5K run or walk through streets and trails of Tualatin. Put on your favorite “Ugly” Holiday Sweater, or other holiday themed costume and run with us for a good cause. Please bring a donation of a small toy or cotton blanket for the NICU, or make a donation (the suggested minimum donation is $10).
  • Save money at Road Runner Sports on Saturday, December 17th (great timing if you’re running the 5th Annual Ugly Holiday Sweater Run mentioned above) – they’ve generously offered to donate a % of the sales proceeds from that morning to the Ladybug CDH Foundation. Get your last minute holiday shopping done after your run.
  • There are two half marathons coming up in January that frequently reach their cap. The first is the Cascade Half Marathon on Sunday, January 15, 2017 in Turner, Ore. and capped at 1,000 between all distances. Register online here; the half marathon and 10k are both $45; prices go up on December 25. The next is the Vancouver Lake Half Marathon scheduled for Sunday, January 22, 2017 in Vancouver, Wash. That race is capped at just 475 participants and is a pretty fast course with no hills. Register online here for $35 + a $4 service fee. I have run both of these races and could recommend either of them for various reasons! They are both great races that benefit area students.
  • Registration for the Hood to Coast Relay – Washington will open at 12:01a on Wednesday, December 7. I suggest staying up late or setting an alarm and registering ASAP for this one-day, 6-person relay scheduled for Saturday, June 3. Early bird pricing is $800 for run teams and $600 for walk teams. This relay will sell out quickly, so even if you don’t have a full team by Wednesday, register anyway and you’ll be able to fill it later.

That’s all for this issue! If you’re a race director or just a runner “in the know,” you can get something on our radar by emailing us here!

We started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. We also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support local race organizers.
