There sure are a lot of ugly sweater-themed runs...! This one is the Ugly Holiday Sweater Dash, and it takes place in West Linn for the eighth year in a row. (Need some examples of ugly holiday sweaters? Take a look here.)
The race has two distance options: a stopwatch timed 5K, and an untimed 1 mile. It's intended to be a "small town race just for fun and to raise funds for local charities that are in need." Indeed, the race organizer, Eventurous Events, is basically a one-woman operation.
Race day is Saturday, December 10, at 9 a.m. for the 5K and 9:30 a.m. for the 1 mile. The entry fee is $25 + 2 cans of food (for donation to the West Linn Food Pantry) for the 5K, and $10 + 2 cans of food for the 1 mile; kids pay $5 for each distance and only have to bring 1 can of food. In return, racers get a finish line treat and coffee, and will be there when the West Linn Holiday Parade starts at 10 a.m.
The 1 mile race is a rectangular loop that looks like something built out of Lego Duplos and should be flat and fast. The 5K incorporates the first half of the 1 mile course and continues on to the riverfront, where it parallels the Willamette River and then doubles back toward the second half of the 1 mile course. (Race maps can be found here.)
