Race Preview: 2016 Foot Traffic Holiday Half & 5K

Get ready for one of the biggest holiday races in the region: the always popular Foot Traffic Holiday Half Marathon & 5k, scheduled for Sunday, December 11. This annual event is sure to get everyone in the holiday spirit, representing Christmas, Hanukkah, and any other holiday you celebrate during this time of year. Enjoy a one of a kind flat, fast course while carolers serenade you as you wind your way through scenic downtown Portland. Then treat yourself to the delicious post race grub, which includes craft seasonal brews, hearty holiday soup, hot chocolate, hot oatmeal, egg nog, and more. This is guaranteed to be a fun time for the whole family, as the event also features a non-timed Kids Holidash 1k.

Half Marathon Start Time – 8:00am

The USATF certified half marathon course starts and finishes under the pedestrian bridge on Greeley Ave. at the Adidas N. America campus. The course features views of Downtown Portland, the University of Portland campus, the St. Johns Bridge, and Pier Park. Overall the course is primarily flat with a slight incline for 400 meters at the start and one gradual dip and incline for about 1/2 mile around the St. John’s Bridge both on the way out and the way back.

5k Start Time – 8:15am

The 5K course also starts and finishes under the pedestrian bridge on Greeley Ave. at the Adidas N. America campus and features views of Downtown Portland and the beautiful Overlook bluff neighborhood. The 5k course is also primarily flat with a slight incline and then decline for 400 meters at the start and finish to help you hit your PR.

The half marathon and 5k course maps can be viewed here: COURSE MAPS. The non timed kids’ race will loop around the Adidas campus for a 1K course.

All race finishers (including the kiddos) will receive a finishers medal; half marathon medals are described as large and festive and “guaranteed to put a smile on your face.” Race participants that sign up before Nov. 9th will receive a long-sleeve tech shirt which comes in men’s and women’s sizing.  For those that would like to purchase a tech shirt in addition or for those that missed the cut off date, the long sleeve tech shirt as well as other commemorative gear will be available for individual sale at the event and the packet pick up days.

Post Race entertainment will include music and lots of yummy food, which includes a hearty protein-rich recovery soup and cornbread muffins, Dave’s Killer Bread, and a variety of samples and snacks from sponsors and vendors will also be there to replenish all your calories expended on the course. Deschutes Brewery will also be on hand to serve up some tasty brews for those 21 and over. There are no official awards ceremonies and no age group awards, but random prizes will be given away all morning long. The post race festivities will take place in The Adidas gym and courtyards.

Registration from today through Nov. 9 is $82 (plus $5.26 registration fee) for the half marathon and $41 (plus $3.14 registration fee) for the 5k. The Kids’ Holidash is $15 (plus $1.77 registration fee). Get your friends/family/co-workers to sign up with you and save some money with group registration which can be done by 1 of 3 options: Option 1.) Gather the information for 15 or more of your friends and register all at once via the online registration system. Just choose the “Group Registration” option to get the discount. Option 2.) Register in store with each registrant’s check/cash. Bring into any Foot Traffic store and submit all at once to receive the discounted price. Option 3.)
