Coach Jim’s free group long run: Saturday, November 5, 2016

Coach Jim is back for this winter training season with his free group runs! Everyone is invited to join him and his group of experienced pacers at these free long runs, designed to get you ready for a spring marathon such as the Eugene Marathon, the Bend Marathon, or the ORRC Vernonia Marathon. If you have a half marathon for your goal race, you’re invited too; you will just run a shorter route.

This weekend’s run is Saturday, November 5 at Road Runner Sports, located at 29 NW 23rd Pl. in Portland. The run will start promptly at 8a, so please arrive by 7:45 to get organized into pace groups and take care of any other business. Parking can be tight in this area, so just keep in mind that Portland now charges for parking on Sundays. (Carpooling is strongly encouraged.)

You can check out this weeks’ route by clicking here. The volunteer pace group leaders will lead you north through the Pearl District and then east to the Waterfront. From there it’s a simple out-and-back that reverses shortly before the Marquam Bridge. The total distance is 8 miles and paces will range from about 7:30m/m to 12:00m/m.

These runs are coordinate by Coach Jim, who is certified by both RRCA and the Lydiard program, out of the goodness of his heart. He volunteers his time simply to help area runners reach their goals without injury and in a safe, fun setting. Likewise, his pace group leaders are volunteers. They will probably not turn down an offer to buy them a coffee at some point during the winter … hint, hint!

We started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. We also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support local race organizers.
