Participant’s stomachs may be a little bloated after Thanksgiving feasting and napping, but there’s no doubt their hearts won’t be equally, if not more, full and inspired after they run the Sandy River Run just two days after the holiday. With a hefty serving of Turkey Trots to choose from around the Pacific Northwest, this race offers the first-time trail runner, or those who prefer to not pound pavement, an opportunity to enjoy 5 kilometers of 100% single track along the scenic Sandy River just east of Portland, Oregon.

The course offers a respectable six hundred feet of elevation gain in its short distance, but promises flowing, runnable, epic descents with views of the adjacent Sandy River that will put a smile on your face. It is a “cup-less” event to cut down on waste, and it is recommended that participants carry their own hydration needs with them. Given that the event is held in Oregon, in November, it is also recommended that participants come prepared for cold, wet, and muddy terrain.

Race Director Anthony Bucci, who resides in Sandy, Oregon himself, and goes by the moniker, “The Bearded Runner” writes: “Trail running is my passion,” and, “this is a great introduction to trail running.” The Sandy River Run is the first step in branding his own racing company, and it’s Bucci’s love for community, trail running, and hometown that make his inaugural event full of promise and longevity. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go back to the City of Sandy Parks Department to support ongoing maintenance of trails within the city’s jurisdiction.

Registration is available online for $25 and comes with free event photos provided by Ziggy Photography and Sam Albrecht Photography. Participants may choose to register the day of the event for $30 from 8:00-8:50am at the trailhead of the Sandy River Trail. Event t-shirts are available with online registration for $20, up to two weeks in advance of the event. Some surplus merchandise may be available for purchase the day of the event.
