The 9th annual Baker City Turkey Trot 5K will once again be held on Thanksgiving morning. This Turkey Trot is a fundraiser benefiting the Northeast Oregon Compassion Center. This budget-friendly event is only $10 and all proceeds go to feed the hungry in Baker City and surrounding areas. Participants are asked to bring non-perishable food donations to help fill the needs of the food bank.

The Northeast Oregon Compassion Center opened in November 2000. It is a Faith Based 501 (c) (3) non-profit that funds its mission primarily through donations and grants. Their mission states: We desire to serve the people in our community and the surrounding areas who have a need – physical, emotional, relational or spiritual – regardless of their race, religion, or ability to pay.

Not only will you be helping feed the hungry by participating in the Turkey Trot, you will also get a free 6 inch Subway sandwich and a drink. If you register by November 10, you will also get a free race t-shirt.

The 5K starts at Kicks Sports Wear on Main Street and heads north towards Hughes Lane on quiet neighborhood streets and returns on the Leo Adler Parkway and back to Main Street. Water, Sorbenots Coffee, and hot chocolate will be available at the turn around point, as well as at the finish. There will also be post-race food and refreshments.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three overall men and women. There will also be prizes for the top three in the team category. The top men and women winners win a watch from J. Tabor Jewelers. There will also be prizes for best costumes.
