Celebrate Halloween with the Scary Run on October 30th in Washougal

The Scary Run on Saturday, October 30th in Washougal, Washington is an opportunity to run, be festive and celebrate Halloween all at the same time. Costumes are optional, but getting chased by zombies, monsters, and psycho freaks is not. The Scary Run offers a 5k and 10k and both begin at 9am at the Reflection Plaza in downtown Washougal, Washington. Washougal is just across the river from Portland and neighbors Vancouver. This event is chip timed and awards will be given to the top 3 Male and Female finishers in each age division for both distances. Being chased and ‘spooked’ on the course should guarantee some fast times. For the creative folks, there will be a costume competition. Awards will be given for the scariest and or most festive costumes.

All participants will receive a technical shirt and finisher medal. The course is flat and fast along the Columbia River and takes advantage of the beautiful, quaint town of Washougal. The fitness expo will include music for entertainment and is sponsored by the City of Washougal. Festive food and drinks will be provided at the post-event part, sponsored by Deschutes Brewery.

Please keep in mind this is a family-friendly event and children of all ages will be attending so remember that when picking your costume. Strollers are welcome and the scarier costumes will be towards the end of the 10k course, so consider the 5k if you have any little ones who might get more easily spooked. Register online through October 28th or the morning of the event, for an additional fee (add $10 for adults, $5 for kids if you wait for day-of-registration). Portions of the proceeds will go to local schools, sport clubs and non-profits based in the Pacific Northwest. The Scary Run is a fun way to celebrate Halloween, get your heart rate up in a whole new way and make some fun memories.

I love anything and everything related to health and fitness! I teach group exercise and do small group personal training when I'm not cleaning up after or shuttling three boys around. I run to to clear my mind, keep my sanity and stay connected with friends. I'm still working on teaching our dog, Autzen, proper running etiquette. Half Marathons and Triathlons are my favorite events and I watch a whole lot of soccer.
