Race Preview: 2016 Lithia Loop Trail Marathon

Mark your calendars for the 9th annual Lithia Loop Trail Marathon which takes place the first Saturday of November.  A "one of a kind run in an equally unique environment", this race is hosted at the crown jewel of Ashland,  Lithia Park.   Listed on the National Register of Historical Places, you can be swept back in time as you explore the forested canopies and beautiful trails for 26.2 miles.  But hurry!  Registration is capped at 300 runners.  Early entry fee before 10/31 is $75.

Runners will receive:

  • Technical race shirt (before 10/31)
  • Finisher’s medal to commemorate this monumental feat
  • Finisher’s Meal to replenish your body and soul
  • Awards for overall male and female winners
  • 6 well stocked aid stations along the course
  • Comradery and bragging rights for finishing such a beautiful and challenging race

The course is a loop course that includes 2 miles of pavement, 3 miles of double track trail, 5 miles of single track trail and 16 miles of dirt road (closed for the course).  Challenge your running legs over the beautiful terrain with a climb over 3,000 feet in the first 10 miles and then descends 3,000 feet in the last 6 miles!   Save some energy for a fast finish!  With the beautiful fall weather we often experience in the PNW, you’ll want to be prepared for anything.  Though I’d recommend to mainly prepare for rain, the finish has been known to offer 60 degrees and plenty of sunshine, as well as snow in the higher elevations.

It should be noted that there is a time limit of 6 hours for this course and a requirement to cross through the Four Corners aid station (mile 20) at or before Noon.

About Robin York (152 Articles)
Robin grew up as a couch potato and did everything she could to get out of exercise, until one day a good friend would not stop talking about this fun 5k race she was doing. Finally Robin got off the couch and trained for this "fun" race using C25K (couch to 5k program). After crossing that first finish line, she kept going and became a "runner". After losing 80 lbs, gaining health, a love of being active and setting a healthy example for her husband and kids, she thinks she'll stick with this whole "running thing".
