Race Preview: 2016 ORRC Autumn Leaves 50/50 – 50 mile & 50K Ultra Runs (Champoeg State Park)

Some race routes manage to show off the best of an area. The Autumn Leaves Ultra Runs take place at Champoeg State Park when the fall foliage colors of the red and yellow maple trees are at their height. On Saturday, October 29th, long distance runners can take on the 50k or 50 mile course on Champoeg’s trails. The race starts and ends at the Historic Champoeg Pavillion on the west end of the park, where your gear stays safe and dry while you run. The 7am start (and 6am early start) means that you will have to bring a headlamp to light your way before the sun rises at 7:45am that day. All runners must begin their last lap at 4pm, so plan your start accordingly. 

The course is a 10k loop with is 80% paved trails and 20% packed gravel and barkchip single track trails. 50k participants run the loop five times, while 50 milers run it eight times. Runners will pass three aid stations on each loop, which will be stocked with water, sports drink, gels, and “the usual ultra race foods.” If you have special needs, please contact the race director ahead of time.

Packet pickup is available at the Tualatin Road Runner on Friday, as well as at the start line on Saturday. There will be no race-day registration, and due to the nature of the trails, the race may sell out at its participant limit. As of October 1st, there are only 20 spots left.
