Flat. Fast. Festive. And Fun.
The alliterations to describe this event are endless, but, put simply, the Runaway Pumpkin Half Marathon in Lebanon, Oregon never disappoints. It starts and finishes in scenic Cheadle Lake park, meanders through neighborhood streets aligned with cheering spectators, then navigates runners out of town and through the bucolic countryside alongside the swift Santiam River.
This year the event directors are offering the half marathon distance along with a new 8k course. Bathrooms and hydration will be provided frequently on course, and runners are encouraged to dress up in the most festive, zany outfits they can find for a costume contest that begins at 8am before the race. For those who can’t make it out for the fun on race day, a virtual race is also available (see event website for more details).
Registration fees for the half marathon include a tech t-shirt, swag bag, and custom finisher’s medal; and the 8k runners receive a tech t-shirt, swag bag, and insulated Runaway Pumpkin lunch bag. After the race, runners will be treated to a variety of healthy post-race food and will receive one coupon for a free beer in the beer garden (proof of I.D. required). 100% of event proceeds benefit the ABC House of Albany, Oregon, in their fight to end child abuse throughout Linn and Benton Counties.
Grab some friends, whip up a costume, and run through the epic fall foliage of the Willamette Valley, rain or shine. Registration for all race categories is available online until 12:01 am on October 13th.
