Dynamo VIA Jacket – I have several nice running jackets but the Dynamo VIA Jacket immediately became one of my favorites. Let’s start with the aesthetics: I lucked out and got the “Blue Spark/Black” color scheme, which looks very sharp. (The jacket also comes in all “Blue Spark” and “Alpine Sun”, a nice rich shade of orange. But the light blue and black play off each other especially well.) Add to that the tidy Montane logo on the chest and subtle reflective VIA inscriptions on the right sleeve and lower back, and you have one cool looking jacket!
The single-layer soft-shell material is very comfortable and breathable, and the fit and tailoring are excellent. Other features include high-quality zippered pockets (one of which contains a small pocket for a phone or iPod with a hole for the cable), an adjustable waist cord with lockable pulls at each side, well-constructed thumb holes on each sleeve for cold weather runs, a standup collar that stays up while remaining unobtrusive with earbud cable loops on each side, snug elastic cuffs, and a front zipper with a good zipper garage and a sturdy weather flap lined with the Montane logo.
A well designed and constructed jacket that looks and feels great, the Montane Dynamo VIA quickly rose to the top of my rotation!
VKM Long Shorts – While the jacket was easy to love, the VKM Long Shorts took a little more getting used to. First of all, they are named “Long” for a reason: They are the largest and loosest running shorts in my collection. The material is lighter and thinner than any of my other shorts, and even the waistband is much wider, stretchier, and less substantial than I’m accustomed to. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, just different, and the shorts are actually very comfortable on the run. My pair is black, but they also come in “Blue Spark”.
Features include a wide zippered pocket at the center back, an open pocket on the right rear for gels (not suitable for keys, as my key fell out early on in a run), and an adjustable waistband with a large elastic cord. Though unlike most other running shorts (and honestly, not really my style), the VKM Long Shorts are still very well made and quite comfortable.
