Last year, race director Matt Kirchoff put together a fun little 10K that sent runners scrambling to the top of Black Butte…it was a tough run. After finishing third in that race, I was really looking forward to trying it again this year because I like that kind of punishment, er, um, hill training. Matt had other ideas however and has put together a new race that offers a slightly tougher challenge. Enter in, The Hoodoo Challenge!
The Hoodoo Challenge is a half marathon trail race that is open to both runners and walkers. The race starts at the Corbett parking area off Hwy 20 and ends at the top of Hoodoo. The course follows scenic trails with views of Island Lake, Link Lake and Sand Camp Lake with a 1,035 foot climb and crosses the famed Pacific Crest Trail.
Runners will then walk back down the mountain (about 1 mile) for an apres-race party at the Hoodoo Lodge parking area.
