Race Preview: 2016 Ultimook Cross Country Race

The 2015 Ultimook Race logo!

Cross country season is rapidly approaching, and one of the most unique events, the Ultimook Race in Tillamook will kick off many harriers' schedules with a wet, sloppy, and memorable effort. The 2015 course included two wide (but shallow) river crossings, a deep and gummy mud pit, wood chipped paths, and a section of corn maze. The course is also said to be very spectator-friendly.

Tie your shoes tight and bring a change of clothes!

Although the event is primarily a middle school and high school meet, there is also an open heat that kicks things off first thing in the morning. This would be a fun opportunity for adult runners, or coaches looking to inspire (or amuse) their teams. If you’re ready to take on this challenge, be sure to double (or triple) knot your shoes. Runners are not allowed to continue the race if you emerge from the mud pit without one or both of your shoes!
