Race Preview: 2016 Baerlic Brewing Company Beer Run

I half-jokingly say that my two hobbies are simple - running and doing brewery tours. My Untapped account (909 total and 715 unique beers) would tend to agree with this. I also just went to my 229th brewery this past weekend. Yeah. So combining my two favorite "pastimes" is super awesome, and the 2016 Baerlic Brewing Company Beer Run does just that. I have been to Baerlic before, and it is a pretty sweet location - just west of Ladd's Addition and in the heart of awesome restaurants and breweries. The event is more "fun" than competitive (no timing and no closed course), but that's not a reason why you can't work hard at a 5k(ish) race before taking in some beers.

This event is the first in the Oregon version of the Brewery Running Series – a series of races that is pretty big in other states across the country (specifically, Minnesota and Colorado). Here is what the series is all about:

The Brewery Running Series started in Minneapolis in 2012 by Nate Herrington and Morgan Jappe. They wanted to combine their favorite things – being active, drinking beer, and supporting their community. Turns out, a few thousand other locals share those same interests! A few years and tens of thousands of beers and miles later, they decided to branch out. When two friends, who were connected to the series, relocated within a year of each other to Portland, they all decided to see if the Rose City, a craft beer and running oasis already, would be a good place to reproduce what they experienced in Minneapolis.

The next Brewery Running Series race looks to be coming up later this year with Rogue (though details are still TBD).

Not only does the Baerlic Brewing Company Beer Run benefit local non-profits, but all participants receive a complimentary beer from Baerlic, and a pint glass or other local stuff.
