All finishers will receive a finisher’s award to commemorate your accomplishment. When I participated in 2013, we received a really cool stainless pint glass that (those over 21 yrs old) could be filled with beer from the beer garden. There will be pizza, over $1,000 worth of raffle prizes, games, and awards for the top placing athletes.
The course maps for Saturday is available online and the course descriptions for Sunday’s trail runs include terms such as “roots”, “ruts”, “rocks” and “hilly”. Don’t let that be off putting as the scenery is completely worth every challenge and obstacle you might face. Along with some technical trail, runners will enjoy open meadows, old growth forests and shade from the trees’ canopy, foot bridges, and a heart pumping, exhilarating, sense of accomplishment. I am not one likely to (ever) finish in my age group or be a “top finisher” but whenever I think of my XTERRA 10K, I still feel a little thrill about completing it. (I did get first place, however, for wearing the most XTERRA temporary tattoos.)
XTERRA’s sponsors at On, 10 Barrel and Papa Murphys are coming together to host a pre-race party, demo run and registration event on Thursday 7/21 on the On HQ in downtown Portland. Make sure you check it out.
