Run Oregon Test Kitchen: Project 7 Gum

When I was asked to try out Project 7 Gourmet Gum, I was all over it, since I am a bit of a gum addict. I was amazed at the variety of flavors Project 7 has created. I was also a little apprehensive. With flavors like Birthday Cake, S’mores, and Front Porch Lemonade, I knew this was not typical gum. The first flavor I decided to try was Rainbow Ice. I don’t get too excited about shaved ice, so I figured this would just be O.K. From the first chew, I was blown away by how flavorful this gum is. Especially since it’s sugar free. Even my husband, who never chews gum, tried it out and was impressed by the amount of flavor it had.
Everyday I was excited to try a new flavor of gum. While I liked some flavors more than others, I have to say that each flavor was true to what you would expect. Birthday cake tasted exactly like delicious white cake with plenty of frosting. Front Porch Lemonade was just like you’d expect on a hot summer day, minus the ice. Then there were the Build A Flavor packages of gum like S’mores, Cookie Dough Ice Cream, Strawberry Margarita, and Half and Half. These are double packs with one package being one flavor and the other a complimentary combination, like Cookie Dough and Vanilla Ice Cream. One piece of each really did taste just like it sounded. The most bizarre flavor for me was Half and Half, which is Sweet Tea and Front Porch Lemonade. I love iced tea, but Sweet Tea gum? It tasted great, but it was crazy to be chewing on what tasted like sweet tea with lemonade.

Each piece of gum is Chiclet-like and comes in a re-sealable pack of 12. Two pieces are the recommended “serving size” and I would agree with that. Once piece just isn’t quite enough, and 3 is even better! Even though this is very flavorful gum, it isn’t real long-lasting. I found that it was a great “dessert gum.” (Is that a thing?) You know, after you eat a meal and you feel like you need something sweet? This gum was a great way to get dessert without indulging in all the calories. 2 pieces of gum is just 5 calories, so that’s a dessert you can have every night!

Besides this gum being ridiculously flavorful, it is also about charitable causes. 7 of them, in fact.
