Run Oregon Test Kitchen: RunnerBox subscription box

Nowadays it’s quite common to hear about monthly subscription boxes for just about everything; clothes, meals, makeup, pet products, etc. Avid fitness lovers can also rejoice, because there happens to be one called RunnerBox which features products and boxes tailor-made for runners, cyclists, and tri-athletes.

The site’s official description of RunnerBox:

RunnerBox is a fun and easy way for any athlete to receive a regular supply of useful products. Whether you’re a runner, cyclist, triathlete, or just an active person, we have a box to suit you. Filled with a huge range of products, such as energy products, gels, chews, protein shakes/supplements, nutrition bars, skincare, & other fun accessories, our boxes are delivered to your front door every second month. We also have limited edition boxes to top up your supplies, and gift boxes for the perfect present.

RunnerBox was founded in 2012 by runner/cyclist, Staci Dietzel, who initially sought out a way to test out the latest running/sport related nutrition products on the market and figure out which worked best for her. From that concept, RunnerBox was born. As mentioned earlier, RunnerBox features products, not just for runners, but also cyclists with the CycleBox, and tri-athletes with the TriBox.

There are 3 subscription length options to choose from:

  • 6 months: A new box arriving on your doorstep every other month. (You will be billed in 3 installments, as each RunnerBox ships).
    • COST: $23 every 2 months for 6 months.
  • 1 year: A year’s worth of boxes arriving every second month, filled with products any runner will love…the perfect gift for yourself or someone else! (You will be billed in 6 installments, as each RunnerBox ships).
    • COST: $22 every 2 months for 12 months.
  • Perpetual: The cheapest option. A new box will arrive on your doorstep every second month. No term contracts, cancel anytime!
    • COST: $20 every 2 months.

In addition to the regular subscription boxes, there are also limited edition boxes: The Race Survival kit; at a cost of $25, and The Risings Stars kit for kids; at a cost of $12.

The product I was lucky enough to test out was the Race Survival Kit.

The race survival kit came with items such as protein chews, run gum, toilet paper, a poncho, fruit squeezes, protein powders, granola bars, and more. While this box specifically seems like it is tailored towards race day preparation, I personally found this box to be essential for a recent backpacking trip. I would say I used about 60% of the box’s contents on a two-day backpacking trip and it worked out perfectly! I utilized the oatmeal, the granola and hemp bars, the chips, the gum, and the fruit squeezes, while items such as the poncho, toilet paper, and sunscreen were packed into my emergency kit. My boyfriend and I were a huge fan of the fruit squeeze pouches and I have since gotten into the habit of buying them on a regular basis for hikes.

Overall I honestly really liked this box and was super surprised at how many items they were able to fit into a box the size of a regular shoe box. In addition to the products mentioned previously, the box also contained coupons for other running products. Like I said, this specific RunnerBox was tailored for race prep, but it can also easily be utilized for many other recreational activities. I definitely think it would also make a really cool gift to give someone. With that being said, there are also gift boxes you can send to someone: The Birthday Box; at a cost of $30, and the one time Giftbox; at a cost of $25.

Prior to trying out RunnerBox, I was always curious about monthly subscription boxes in general. After getting to try this box out however, I would definitely be up for trying it out more regularly. I think it’s an awesome and fun concept to be able to try out new-to-me products out on the market and I am excited at the idea of gifting one of these boxes to friends and families to try out as well.
