After participating in the Cottage Grove Half Marathon earlier this year, I fell in love with running in the beautiful, small town of Cottage Grove, which is about 25 minutes south of Eugene. I was pursuing through races the other day, and came across Run Cottage Grove, which “… is a small group of running enthusiasts committed to putting on great runs that showcase our little town of Cottage Grove, Oregon.” I quickly found out that this running group puts on events in Cottage Grove, and one is literally right around the corner!
On Friday, July 15, 2016 at 9 p.m., join me at the Gold Rush 5k. This event is one of many events (running and otherwise) taking place during the Bohemia Mining Days in Cottage Grove, taking place July 14 – July 17. The 5k will take participants through the beautiful, historic downtown district of Cottage Grove. You may choose to run or walk the event. The start/finish line will be located at 6th and West Washington Avenue, which is in the center of town. The course will then proceed along Main Street to River Road, along the Willamette Coast Fork River. Bonus – the course will go past where Buster Keaton shot a portion of the famous silent film “The General”. Sweet! I am a history buff, so this will be awesome!
As the event starts at 9 p.m., consider getting to Cottage Grove earlier (or stay later after the event – or both!) and take advantage of the great food and drink options available near the start/finish. I’m planning on arriving early to do just this! What a wonderful way to spend a summer Friday night (food, drink and running).
Your registration fee of $20 will include a drink ticket to the Brew Station, and “glowstick fun”! Awards will be presented to the first place overall male and female finisher. Packet pick-up and race day registration will kick-off at 7:45 p.m.
I hope you’ll join me and check out this event, and the city of Cottage Grove. It is a wonderful place to run!
P.S. – A kids event will take place on Saturday, July 16 at 9:30 a.m., right before the Bohemia Mining Days parade kicks-off. This will be a 500 meter dash, with the start/finish at 14th and Main Street. No registration is needed – just show up and run!
