Race Preview: 2016 Freedom 5K (Vancouver)

The Vancouver USA Marathon has quickly established itself as one of Clark County’s biggest and most popular events, with this year’s full and half marathons scheduled for Sunday, June 19th. As has become the custom with marathons, VUM is a weekend-long event, with a 5k kicking things off on Saturday. The Freedom 5K is a great event in its own right, with a scenic course taking in downtown Vancouver, Officer’s Row and Ft. Vancouver, Maya Lin’s Land Bridge, and the Columbia River waterfront.

The race starts and finishes at Esther Short Park, which will be bustling with activity, including the VUM Active Expo, the Saturday Market, and the Summer Brewfest. The forecast calls for a zero chance of boredom. Awards include plaques for the overall and masters man and woman and medals for the top three in 5-year age groups. Stick around and enjoy the atmosphere while you wait for the award ceremony at noon.
