Race preview: 2016 Mary’s Peak 50k & 25k

The Mary’s Peak races in the coast range are point to point trail runs that have a limited field. The location is about 20 minutes west of Corvallis, in the Coast Range. They say if race day is clear it will actually be possible to see the ocean while on the course. Don’t ponder this one too long, as there are only 150 slots open at each distance.

Registration is now $80 for the 50K and $70 for the 25K.  This does include a race shirt, additional shirts can be purchased for $25. If it does not fill up beforehand, it closes on the 16th. A shuttle to the start is included, as is a finishers pint glass and food at the end. There will be multiple water and aid stations on the course to assist participants. Not only will the do awards 3 deep in each age group for men and women, but the overall winners get a free entry to the next year. Now that’s a practice that would really crank up the level of competition at events!

This event looks like it has a lot going for it, from good planning, to an amazing location. The coast range is an amazing place to run, a nice escape from the grind. Having a point to point course also makes it unique. There are a lot of events to choose from on June 18th, but none quite like this. The scenery alone would be worth the trip.
