The Victor Point School's Run for the Hills takes place near Silverton on Saturday, May 21st. Victor Point is a rural K-8 school nestled in the Cascade foothills near Silver Falls State Park. The event offers a 1-mile kids race, a 5k/10k run and walk, and a challenging 15k course. Proceeds from the race benefit the students at Victor Point School.
All race distances start and end at the school. The 5k is an out-and-back course on paved roads with moderately rolling hills. The 10k starts the same as the 5k, but continues on and turns around shortly after a completing a significant climb to the Union Cemetary (out-and-back on the first 3.1 miles of the 15k course). Finally, the 15k course is really challenging. It has five significant climbing sections on paved and graveled country roads.
Registration is available online and on the day of the event with a $5 fee increase. Start times are staggered: The morning starts with the 1-mile kids run at 8am, followed by the 15k at 8:15. The 5k and 10k start together at 8:45. Awards will be given to the top finishers in each distance, and handcrafted medals are awarded to the top three in each age group.
