Small Race Preview: 2016 TEAM UP for Students! 5K (Hillsboro)

The TEAM UP for Students! 5K Run (and walk) is an annual benefit race to raise funds to support schools in Washington County. This year's beneficiary (as chosen by the race sponsor, Washington County Educators) will be W.L. Henry Elementary School in Hillsboro, and the staff there "will choose how best to use the proceeds from this event to support students in the school year 2016/17."

The race will start at Echo Shaw Elementary School in Cornelius at 9:00 a.m. on May 14. No course map is available at the race website, but it should be marked and flagged by volunteers on the day of the event.

Note that this race is taking an innovative approach to race support:

In an effort to follow best sustainability practices and make smart choices, this is a “Bring Your Own Bottle” event! We will supply water stations to re-fill your water bottles.  There will be no water bottles available for purchase.

Water will be available in recyclable cups to participants at mid course and  to everyone at the awards site after the race. Medical personnel will be onsite. There will be no porta potties along the route, but restrooms will be open in Echo Shaw Elementary near the registration table.

The race will be chip-timed, and there will be awards for first, second, and third place finishers in different age groups.
