The 2nd annual Ecliptic Beer Mile is coming back to Portland on May 15th, after rave reviews in their inaugural event. Obviously, this race isn’t a “real” race, but it’s always fun to try something new. One of the positive reviews came from us, as Marilyn was out in full force last year. Here is some of her recap from the 2015 event:
The 2015 Inaugural Ecliptic Beer Mile was AWESOME. While I typically prefer to put in some solid miles, and then sit down, kick back, and leisurely enjoy my beer, I did feel like it was my duty to represent Run Oregon at the inaugural Ecliptic Beer Mile…There were ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE–speedy runners, frat boy-types, moms and dads, hipsters, everyone! It was pretty entertaining to see…There were Ecliptic brewing prizes for the age division winners, as well as live music and cornhole too. I ordered some food, a mushroom tart that was DELICIOUS, and we hung out for a while. There was lots of seating, both indoors and outdoors, and the wait staff was really friendly and accommodating…The inaugural Ecliptic Beer Mile was incredibly fun, and is an event that I would definitely enjoy doing again.
The race will follow the same format as last year, with runners heading down Mississippi before turning around coming back to the brewery. This is a little different than your typical beer mile, where participants complete 4 .25 mile loops. Due to Portland city regulations, at the Ecliptic Beer Mile runners will drink first, run a full mile, and then return and finish at the end.
Even despite the casual nature of the race, there are volunteers, professional timing, shirts, and prizes for age/division winners. Runners are encouraged to bring canned food to the event for the race charity – the Sunshine Division, who provides food and clothing relief to Portland families and individuals in need.
