Race Preview: 2016 Havoc At The Hideout trail race

The Havoc At The Hideout trail race on Sunday, May 1st, is one of X-Dog Events' more "conventional" offerings, insofar as it actually has a course on real trails. Of course, all the endearing X-Dog quirks are still present, including a nebulous distance (5 to 6 miles), a slightly off-kilter theme (tropical), finishers' leis in luau of… er, in lieu of medals, and alternative post-race cuisine (tako poke and mai tai sno cones)! The one-loop course takes advantage of a great network of dirt trails at the host site, Horning's Hideout. The trails vary from narrow to wide, traverse deep woods and open fields, and include some curse-inducing hills. Having run the Warrior Dash at this venue, let me just say that some of the hills themselves were more daunting than even the most formidable obstacles. Luckily, apart from the odd creek crossing and log to clamber over, the most difficult "obstacle" at the Havoc will be keeping your grass skirt and coconut shell sports bra in place on the hills.

Both the venue and the event itself are open to everyone, and all paces are welcome. Plan on making a day of it and bring picnic supplies to enjoy a chance to relax after the race. If octopus and mai tais aren’t really your preferred post-race refreshment, beer and pretzels will also be provided. Overnight camping is also available at the race site, for a small fee.

Overall and age group awards will be presented and all participants should stick around for the bountiful and X-Dog-riffic raffle prizes!
