Race Preview: 2016 Volcano Valley Half Marathon, 10k and 5k by Run With Paula

New courses for the 2016 Volcano Valley Half Marathon, 10k and 5k put the start and the finish right in Willamette Mission State Park, which is a change from the 2015 race in which participants parked at the Volcanoes Stadium finish line and were shuttled to the start. This year, all courses are out-and-back and participants will be able to park right there at the start/finish area. When: Sunday, May 1, 2016 What time: 8a Where: Willamette Mission State Park at 10991 Wheatland Rd. NE in Gervais. Click here for driving directions. Register: Online here for the half for $79 or the 5k or 10k for $49. Registration includes your finisher shirt, lunch, beer, finisher medal, and goody bag. Register by April 27 to guarantee your shirt size, kids - they gotta get the order in. Run Oregon loves Run With Paula races, which are always excellently executed. You can count on an accurate and safe course, high-quality race shirts and goodies, and amazing volunteers.

The half marathon course will be dotted with Glukos and water aid stations every 1.5 to 2 miles along the route, which starts at Willamette Mission and runs within the park for the first 2 miles. The course then follows country roads north of Keizer, making a few turns zigzagging south and west before the turnaround point and heading back to the park. The 5k and 10k will follow the same out-and-back map, but turnaround at half their respective distances. You can check out the course map for the 2016 Volcano Valley Half Marathon, 10k and 5k here.

This year’s logo is vibrant and will look great on the race shirts, which you can relax in after the race as you enjoy music, food and drink at Willamette Mission. Carpooling, always a great option, is a great idea for this race because of the Oregon State Park $5 day pass you’ll need; if you have an annual pass you’re all set. Anyway, bring $5 cash to pay for this pass if you need one.

About Kelly Barten (1049 Articles)
I started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because I felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. I also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support LOCAL race organizers. I'm a Creighton Bluejay (undergrad) and an Oregon Duck (Sports Marketing MBA), and I live in Tigard with my husband and two kids. My "real job" is working for an incredibly awesome math textbook company doing marketing and production.
