Race Preview: 2016 Shotgun Trail Blast 50K, 25K,10K and 5K (Marcola)

The Shotgun Trail Blast run includes a 50K, 25K, 10K and 5K on April 2nd in Marcola, outside of Eugene. The second event in the Run Big Race Series, this trail run promises trees, hills, streams and plenty of mud. Held at the Shotgun Creek Recreation Center, northwest of Marcola the 50K starts at 8AM, the 25K starts at 9:45AM, the 10K begins at 9:50AM and the 5K runs at 10AM. Register online through midnight on April 1st or in person at the Eugene Running Company (116 Oakway Center) or Run Hub NW (515 High Street) through April 1st at noon. Race day registration will be available from 7:30AM-9:45AM for an additional $10. The 50K costs $50, the 25K costs $35, the 10K and 5K cost $25. Kids 17 and under and adults 60 and over can deduct $5. Technical shirts are available to purchase for $12 and can be ordered through March 25th, or until they are sold out. Bibs will be passed out race morning. 

The 50K and 25K will cover multiple loops of the single track trail. The 50K runs the 5.2 mile trail six times, the 25K runs it three times, The 10K has a half mile out and back and then runs the loop once and the 5K takes advantage of a section of the trail. The elevation gain and loss is approximately 566 feet per loop. Along the course, there will be streams, thick woods, rock bridges, wildlife and plenty of aid stations. Wood medallions will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each distance. All participants are eligible for random prize drawings that will be presented throughout the day. There will be plenty of parking at the Shotgun Creek Campground parking lot. Plan to stick around for post-race for some food and goodies around the fireplace at the picnic shelter.
