Race Preview: 2016 Lucky Dog 5K, 10K, 15K Relay and Kids Dash

Lucky Dog 2016 300 x 200 Double Dog Dare U Events is set to host its second-annual Lucky Dog race on Sunday March 13th, 2016 at Westview High School in Portland, Or. I am very excited to participate in my first DDDU event as I have heard many wonderful things about the other races this group puts on, including the Youngberg Hill Half and 10K and the Bald Peak Half. Run Oregon participated in the inaugural event and had the following to say:

The course started off with a bit of downhill, then flattened out as you reached the trailhead, had some slight elevation gain before turning around and heading back the way you came, and back up the hill to the high school. The portion of the course along the trail was pretty, although the recent downpours had flooded some portions of the course, and there wasn’t any way to avoid getting wet up to your ankles (the joys of living in the Pacific Northwest). Other runners were fairly friendly, and we cheered each other on as we passed by, or chatted for a bit during the run. A few people even brought their dogs!

After the race, every finisher received a Lucky Dog medal and pint glass or stein. There were also a handful of prizes raffled off, including knuckle lights, and race entries. For snacks, there was Starbucks coffee, water, bananas, (cold) clam chowder and oyster crackers (there was a mishap with the generator, so they covered the individual containers with foil so people could take them home if they wanted). Many people hung around until the last person crossed the finish line, and everyone clapped and cheered. It’s moments like that where I’m reminded how great small, no frills events are–that bring us back to what’s important about running!

The race director’s tackled some challenges in their first year, and I bet that things will be smoother this time around.

Get your green on for St. Patrick’s Day in multiple ways–by participating in a race on a beautiful tree-lined course, knowing your entry fee is going to support the Westview High School Cross Country Program. Interested?!
