Race Preview: 2016 Cottage Grove Half Marathon

I have been to Cottage Grove twice in my life – the first for trying out Hard Knocks Brewing and the other because there wasn’t a closer hotel available during Eugene Marathon weekend a few years back. Each time, I remember thinking, “this city seems cool – I should come back and try it out some time”. Fortunately, the newly minted Cottage Grove Half Marathon is the driving force to get me back in town after an absence.

The course itself is a one-way, gradual downhill shot, starting at Dorena School and running on beautiful Row River Trail alongside Dorena Lake east of the city.

Things stay relatively straight for about the first 6.5 miles before dropping about 300 feet over the last half of the race.

Race route

The Race Director also puts on a bunch of great races in the surrounding Eugene areas through Oregon Trail Runs (from Alsea to Corvallis). We have run a few of these events in the past, and things always run well.  There will be plenty of aid stations (miles 1.2, 4.3, 6.2, 8.3, and 12.2), as well as toilets (miles 4.3 and 8.3)

Packet pick-up is at the Village Green Resort from 12-7 pm on March 4th (if you are nearby or planning to stay over.
