Race Preview: The Family 4k at the 2016 Bend Marathon presented by Picky Bars

My 6-year-old ran her first “real” race this year. On New Year’s Day, she ran the Hangover Run 3k in Salem with a proud dad by her side. We know she’s not quite ready for a 5k, but has been badgering me every week about where all the 4k’s are. I have been telling her that 4k’s aren’t really that popular of a distance, but I would continue to look. Imagine the awesomeness in finding a race – the Family 4k at the 2016 Bend Marathon presented by Picky Bars – located in one of our favorite cities to play in!

The Family 4k is new to the Bend Marathon and Half Marathon weekend this year. The race is $40 for 13+, but kids under 12 run for free so it’s basically a 2-for-1 deal if your kids are under that age limit. The start is in downtown Bend, and will loop around the heart of the city before finishing next to Drake Park. Even with its short distance, it will still pass by and through some cool local places like Jackson’s Corner, Miller’s Landing Park, and up Riverfront Street (along the Deschutes). Additionally, every finisher will receive a Bend Family 4k medal.
