Race Preview: kickASPS 5k 3/5/16 (Hillsboro, Ore.)

“Nathalie Traller raised $11,000 on her own to benefit ASPS research and we want to continue living out her dream. The profits of this race will be going to the Rutledge Foundation who is working with Doctor Kevin Jones of the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah in developing two drugs to treat ASPS.”

Wow. Now this is a moving story. This race is more than a 5K run/walk. This event is about a wonderful lady who raised $11,000 on her own to benefit ASPS research. ASPS (Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma) is a rare cancer that forms in the bones of young adults. Unfortunately, it is not only rare (15-80 cases nationwide each year), but resistant to radiation and chemotherapy treatments. Sunset High junior, Nathalie Traller, recently passed away from this cancer. All proceeds from this event will go to the Rutlegde Foundation

“By signing up you are not only helping put an end to this terrible disease, but are willing to plant and water the seed that Nathalie began.” I couldn’t have said it better myself. Now, let me tell you about this event.

Beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Century High School in Hillsboro, Oregon, the first 5K heat will kick off. Remember, you may run or walk this event, so it is perfect for the entire family. After parking, head over to the track where packet pick-up/check-in will take place. Your entry fee of $20 includes the race, and an event t-shirt. Your bib will have a color on it, which indicates what heat you will be in. You can also grab your bib/shirt on Friday, March 4 at 4 p.m. at the Century High School track.

Be sure to check out the Facebook page for this event, too. Remember, all proceeds from this event will go to the Rutlegde Foundation.

Together, we can kickASPS.
