Every year, Bend throws a mighty cool party known as Winter Fest, which is a weekend long party that includes tons of music, motorcross stunt riders know as Metal Mulisha, lots of great food, an insane amount of beer options and a fun little running race. Each year there is a theme and this time it’s Star Wars!
This year, race organizers are calling the race a chance to “complete your Jedi or Sith Lord training”. Runners are encouraged to get there early “for Dark and White Knight calisthenics”. Because of the nature of WinterFest and the fun that is involved, it is not uncommon to see many people dressed in costumes. Given the theme of the race, runners are encouraged to dress up, but “make sure your armor is flexible because we have added a few themed obstacle challenges to make it even more exhilarating!”.
The race course is a out and back, navigating obstacles on both sides of the Deschutes River. Runners will start at the Les Schwab Amphitheater box office and corss over to the Old Mill SHopping District right after the amphitheater. There will be an obstacle near the Red Robin, that will need to be navigated before coninuting along thew ay. Runners will follow the trail and have an aid station at Farewell Bend Park before crossing back over the river. Obstacle #2 will be within Riverbend Park, and once passed, runners will head back to the start. 5k runners will complete a second loop to complete the distance.
The WinterFest Fire King and Ice Queen will be there handing out cool themed souvenir glasses (to the first 200 registrants) and will be at the end to serve complimentary beverages once you finish. The race is $30 for pre-registrants, which also includes a 3-day pass to the Winterfest itself. Winterfest has some great events that weekend, so consider making a weekend trip. There will be:
