Kickstarter of the Week: BASE by Wiivv (Custom, 3D Printed Insoles)

Product: Base by Wiivv Location: Vancouver, BC, CAN Kickstarter End Date: February 5, 2015 Current Pledge: $95,945 of $50,000 (WILL BE FUNDED) I have become a big supporter of insoles. Yet, I have always found it a little disconcerting to be perusing the insole section at a running shop or online and thinking, "how am I supposed to know if this is the right one for me? All of our feet can't be covered in one row of insoles, can they?" Luckily, I have found and tried some that work for me, but it can be an intimidating endeavor nonetheless. Our newest Kickststarter of the Week, BASE by Wiivv, aims to squash that notion and is aiming to fit 3d insoles to YOUR foot using only your smartphone. Now that's some next level stuff. From their campaign:

Step by Step

BASE is a body-perfect insole that is engineered to maximize comfort, promote alignment and lessen fatigue. Your pair of BASE insoles will closely follow your unique foot curves to give you the support and stability that you need to keep going. To customize your pair of insoles and get measured, all you need is 5 minutes and a smartphone. With this kind of convenience, you’ll never want to go for off-the-shelf again.

Here is how it works:

Getting your BASE insoles is easy. 2D images are taken through the Wiivv smartphone app to capture the unique contours of your feet. These images are verified by an expert and processed in Wiivv’s blazing-fast customization engine to produce a 3D-printable file for a pair of insoles to perfectly fit you and you only. This unique file is then sent to enterprise-grade 3D printers that use SLS technology (a system of powerful and precise lasers) to build a durable and flexible shell. Finally, skilled workers use their crafting knowledge to deftly apply a beautifully designed top layer along with features to further improve comfort, like silicon treads and cushions.

There will be 4 base colors and 8 top sheet options for use and you can pledge now for $60 (which will be about $15 less than will be available post-Kickstarter) or you can get two for $100. Run Oregon has been gifted a pair and will be completing a review in the upcoming months. These seem to be the next generation of insoles and we are excited to see how they live up to their billing.

  1. This sounds like a brand new and exciting product to try out in the future, I am a big fan insoles because I like to do a lot of running and end up straining my feet. I am interested in this product and will find out more.
