Race Preview: 2016 MadAss (Madras)

For the 11th year, MadAss is back in Madras! This seems like a really big deal and yet this is truly a very well kept secret. Featuring both a 25K and 50K, this race has never been well attended and yet it's a great run! Last year, less than 10 runners finished the 50K while less than 30 finished the 25K. And it's not just the small race feel, this race is awesome for a number of reasons! The race started back in 2006 with little fanfare and yet every year, the race organizers home brew their own special beer just for the race. There have been some of the most unique and amazing items for finishers over the years, such as water bottle koozies, beanies, mittens, headbands and more.

The race starts and finishes at the Madras Aquatic Center, where there is a potluck meal immediately after the run, then pool games for anyone who sticks around (time trials down the water slide!). Add all of that to the fact there is no pre-registration (only a waiver to sign) and a suggested donation of $20 to the Jack Watts Memorial Scholarship, for which all proceeds go (benefitting high school runners in Jefferson County).

Come prepared for any weather, as there has been 15 degrees and snowing and 60 degrees and sunny at the end of January. Either way, come prepared to have a great run in Madras!

When: Saturday, January 30th. Race starts at 8:30

Register: There is no pre-registration, just a waiver to sign. You can get the waiver and more information here, or just show up at 7:30.
